The Housing Committee was established in 2014 to explore the issue of affordable, LGBT-friendly housing in the Ottawa Capital region. The Committee’s mandate is to explore all possibilities of housing available, or that might become available, for LGBT seniors including: living in place (seniors assisted in their homes); for-profit seniors’ housing; charitable non-profit housing (existing or new-builds); cooperative housing; and ownership (eg. condominium or life lease).
In 2015, Ipsos Reid partnered with the OSPN Housing Committee to conduct a survey of Ottawa LGBT seniors with the goal of determining people’s attitudes, perceptions and general preferences regarding housing as they age. The survey summary and final report can be found here:

Along with their ongoing housing work, the committee volunteers have created a Resource List of practical service providers who are LGBT or LGBT-friendly. The collection contains everything from plumbers to realtors to lawyers to painters and everything in between … contacts that were gathered from members of the Ottawa LGBT community.
As this is a word-of-mouth list, OSPN cannot endorse and/or guarantee the work of any individuals or companies. We encourage you to check out the service providers carefully. The list can be downloaded here and from our Resources page. If you know of a contact that we might want to add to the list, please contact the Chairperson of our Housing Committee, George Hartsgrove, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
